Planning a BLDC Ceiling Fan Motor Line

The questions to answer before you buy machines for BLDC fan motor production.

Fan makers moving to BLDC motors often start by asking for a winding machine. A better starting point is the output you need and the process that gets you there.

Start from output and takt time

Divide the available working seconds in a shift by the motors you need per shift. That takt time tells you how fast each station must work, and how many winding spindles you need, because winding is usually the slowest step.

List every process step

Write down each operation from bare stator to packed motor: insulation, winding, termination, winding test, rotor bonding, magnetizing, assembly, controller fitting and end-of-line test. Each needs a station, fixture or machine.

Decide the automation level

Manual and semi-automatic stations cost less and suit lower volumes. Plan the layout so that stations can be automated later without moving the whole line.

Build testing in from day one

A winding tester before assembly and an end-of-line tester after it protect your brand while the team learns the process.
